Of Fairfax Retirement Home, Ft. Belvoir, VA, formally of Erie PA. Passed away 9 June 2011. Born 5 Nov. 1920, he served in WWII landing on Leyte and Okinawa. After 30 years of military service he worked with Northrop Grumman Corporation. After his retirement he became very active as a community leader in the Mt. Vernon/Ft. Belvoir area especially with the Ft. Belvoir Catholic Community. He served in a number of positions with the Mt. Vernon Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) to include president. He was the first Grand Knight of the Ft. Belvoir Council of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his military decorations, he was a recipient of the medal of the Archdiocese for Military Services in 1995 and in 2004 received the Aaron Hur award from the Chief of Chaplain’s office. He was selected as the Knight of the Year by the State of Virginia in 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife Madge, the former Mary Madelyn Baltus, his son Chuck and his daughter Maureen. He is survived by his son Kevin, daughter-in-la Maureen, three grand daughters and two great grandsons. A funeral mass will be held at the Ft. Belvoir Woodlawn Chapel on 15 June 2011 at noon. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ft. Belvoir Knights of Columbus Council (KofC PO Box 387 Ft.
