Who are Mattheans? Mattheans are a team of volunteers who count the Mass’s offertory collection from the faithful. The ministry chose St. Matthew the tax collector-turned apostle for its name and patronage.
What do Mattheans do? The ministry involves sorting and counting loose currency and checks, and recording amounts on the offering control sheet. Training is provided. Time commitment is about 20 minutes after Mass twice a month. Mattheans are occasionally asked to also serve as a substitute for those who are unable to serve at their regularly scheduled Mass.
How do I volunteer? All Fort Belvoir Catholic Community members are invited to join this ministry. Parishioners may volunteer by calling or visiting the Parish Coordinator’s office in the Woodlawn Chapel at 703-806-5745 or e-mail [email protected]
Is there more information? Detailed information on the duties of Mattheans is contained in the SOP for Mattheans, located in the Woodlawn Chapel ministry handbook.
