Fort Belvoir implemented gate access policy changes Friday, 31 Oct, 2014 inorder to be in compliance with Department of Defense and Army directives andto ensure the safety and security of the community.
All non-Department of Defense ID card holders must come through the visitor's center at Tulley Gate for access to the installation. DOD ID card holders are encouraged to go through any of the other gates.
In order to gain access to the installation, visitors need to bring a
federally recognized photo ID with them to the visitor's center. This
upgrade to Fort Belvoir's security posture has been in the works for a
while, prior to its implementation last Friday. The change coincides with the future implementation of the Automated Installation Entry system (AIE). When AIE comes online, much of the traffic congestion should be reduced.
It is strongly suggested, for everyone who thinks that they need to
regularly come on the installation, to go to the visitor's center and
request a 30-day pass. This will help with access control and hopefullyreduce the lines and wait times.
People who work or volunteer on Fort Belvoir should get sponsored by their organizations. Instead of every 30 days, sponsored personnel can get a passmfor up to six months and that pass would actually allow them to enter other gates, as long as they are in a privately owned vehicle. If you car or vanpool, the Trusted Traveler program is still in effect. If someone in the vehicle has a DOD ID card, they can vouch for everyone else in the vehicle. They still have to have a photo ID but it does not have to be a DOD ID.
